16 Suspects Detained in Kwania Security Operation Over Alleged Drug Activities

KWANIA — Security teams in Kwania District have detained 16 suspects in an operation targeting suspected drug-related activities and criminal networks in the district.

The operation was conducted as part of intensified security efforts across the North Kyoga region to disrupt criminal activities and address the circulation and use of narcotic substances.

Marijuana and opium reportedly recovered

According to security authorities, the operation resulted in the recovery of suspected narcotic substances, including bundles of marijuana and raw opium.

Security teams also reportedly recovered tools suspected to have been used in breaking into houses.

The recovered items have been retained as exhibits as investigators continue processing the cases.

Suspects face possible charges

The files arising from the operation have reportedly been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal review.

The suspects could face charges relating to alleged unlawful possession of narcotic substances and consumption of prohibited drugs where sufficient evidence is established.

Police have continued to emphasise that suspects remain innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.

Security operations continue

The Kwania operation forms part of wider security operations being conducted across the North Kyoga region to tackle drug abuse, theft and other forms of criminal activity.

Security authorities have urged residents to provide information about suspected criminal networks and activities in their communities.

They have also warned communities against participating in the production, distribution or consumption of illegal drugs.

The latest arrests are expected to help security agencies identify wider networks involved in the alleged drug trade and other related criminal activities in Kwania and neighbouring areas.
