Faith in Action: Manifest Fellowship Ministers Lead Juba Market Cleanup in Lira City

Young ministers from Manifest Fellowship in Lira City joined the nationwide cleaning campaign on Saturday, July 25, cleaning Juba Market in an effort to promote cleanliness, environmental responsibility and community service.

The cleanup brought together young ministers who voluntarily took part in clearing litter and improving the surroundings of the busy market. The activity reflected their belief that keeping the environment clean is not only a civic responsibility but also an important part of their Christian values.

The ministers fellowship at Lavingtone Park, where they hold services every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Juba Market, located near their fellowship grounds, was selected as the area of focus for the July cleanup.

Speaking during the exercise, Joanita Abundance, a minister in Manifest Fellowship Lira, said the cleanup was a practical expression of what they have been taught about caring for their surroundings.

“Cleaning is part of us, and that is who we are. We have been taught by our father and a man of God, who ensures and encourages his sons and daughters in the Lord to always keep their environment and surroundings clean,” Abundance said.

She added that the commitment to cleanliness goes beyond participating in occasional community campaigns, describing it as a value that should become part of everyday life.

The cleanup is also connected to an initiative embraced by Phaneroo Ministry International, which encourages its members and fellowships to dedicate the end of every month to cleaning markets and their surrounding communities.

For the young ministers, the July 25 exercise was therefore more than simply removing rubbish from a public space. It was an opportunity to demonstrate their faith through service while contributing to the wellbeing of people who use the market.

Juba Market serves a large number of traders and residents in Lira City, making proper waste management and cleanliness essential for maintaining a healthy and welcoming environment.

The ministers' participation highlights the potential for churches and faith-based fellowships to play a meaningful role in community development by encouraging their members to take responsibility for the spaces around them.

As the cleanup came to an end, the message from the young ministers was clear: a clean community begins with individuals who are willing to take responsibility for their surroundings. Through continued participation in market cleaning activities, Manifest Fellowship hopes to encourage more people in Lira City to see cleanliness not as a once-in-a-while campaign, but as a shared responsibility and a way of serving the community.
