Lira Blood Drive Collects More Than 350 Units to Support Patients Across Lango

More than 350 units of blood have been collected in Lira City following a community blood donation campaign aimed at addressing the growing demand for blood in health facilities across the Lango Sub-region.

The blood donation drive was organised by the Lira Pakistan Association as part of its community activities and brought together residents, leaders and members of the Pakistani community in Lira.

The campaign was held at GB Restaurant, where residents responded to the call to donate blood for patients who depend on blood transfusions during medical emergencies.

Highest collection recorded in Lira

The Lira Regional Blood Bank has welcomed the turnout, describing the collection as a major boost to blood supplies in the region.

Blood donor recruitment officials said the number of units collected was among the highest ever recorded during a single blood donation activity in Lira.

The achievement comes at a time when health facilities across Lango continue to require reliable blood supplies for patients suffering from conditions such as malaria and sickle cell disease, as well as victims of accidents and other emergencies.

Community urged to make blood donation routine

Officials have encouraged residents to make blood donation a regular community activity rather than waiting for organised campaigns.

Health authorities say regular donations are essential because blood cannot be manufactured and must be obtained from voluntary donors.

The Lira Pakistan Association said the initiative was intended to give back to the Lango community and support patients in need of blood.

The association also called on other organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals to support similar initiatives.

Leaders commend donors

Government and local leaders who attended the event commended the blood donors and organisers for responding to an important health need in the region.

They encouraged more people who are eligible to donate blood to participate in future drives.

The organisers said the blood collected will contribute to improving availability at health facilities serving communities in Lira and the wider Lango Sub-region.

The campaign has also renewed calls for stronger community participation in blood donation as health facilities continue to depend on voluntary donors to meet emergency and routine transfusion needs.
