Lira City Steps Up Road Maintenance Ahead of Rainy Season

Lira City Steps Up Road Maintenance Ahead of Rainy Season

Lira City authorities have intensified road maintenance works across major roads in a bid to improve transportation and prepare the city for the anticipated rainy season. The initiative is expected to enhance road safety, reduce flooding, and improve the movement of people and goods within the city.

Road maintenance teams have been deployed to repair potholes, clear drainage channels, and grade damaged road sections that have become difficult to use due to wear and tear. The works are focusing on busy roads that connect residential areas, business centres, schools, and health facilities.

According to city officials, the maintenance exercise forms part of the city's commitment to providing reliable infrastructure that supports economic growth and public safety. They noted that improving drainage systems will also help minimize flooding during heavy rains, which often disrupt transport and business activities.

Residents have welcomed the development, saying the improved roads will make daily travel easier and reduce vehicle maintenance costs. Local business owners also expressed optimism that better road conditions will attract more customers and facilitate the transportation of goods.

"We have struggled with damaged roads for some time, especially during the rainy season. This work will make it easier for us to conduct business and move around the city," Omara Pius one of the trader said.

Motorists have been advised to drive carefully around construction zones and follow temporary traffic signs while the maintenance works continue. Pedestrians have also been urged to remain cautious near road repair sites to ensure their safety.

City engineers have appealed to residents to avoid blocking drainage channels with waste, emphasizing that proper waste disposal plays an important role in preventing flooding and protecting the city's infrastructure.

The road maintenance programme is expected to continue over the coming weeks as authorities work to improve accessibility and ensure Lira City remains safe and functional during the rainy season. Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining quality infrastructure that supports community development and enhances service delivery.
