Man killed by brother in Lira over Shs150,000 debt
Police in Lira City are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man who was allegedly killed by his biological brother during a fight over an unpaid shs150,000 debt.
the incident happened on Friday,September,11,2026 in Barkwoyo Cell, Adekokwok Ward, Lira City East Division. The deceased has been identified as Jasper Ogwang. According to a report recorded by police, a quarrel broke out after Ogwang demanded repayment of shs150,000 that his brother, identified as 28-year-old Tonny Odil, had allegedly borrowed to buy iron sheets.
The debt had reported remained unpaid for sometime, leading to an argument between the two brothers.
Jonathan Oteng, 31, a resident of the same area , told the police that the argument ascalated into a fight during which Odil allegedly picked up a hoe and struck ogwang on the head.
Ogwang collasped and died at the scene.
Police from Lira city East Division visited the scene and began investigations.
North Kyoga Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident and the suspect had fled and was still at Large.
"A team led by CID, Scene of Crime Officers, Crime Intelligence Officer and others visited the scene. Statements were recorded from the witnesses. The suspect fled and is at large," Okema said.
The deceased's body was retrieved and taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
