UPDF Begins Phase Three Physical Recruitment Exercise Across Lango
UPDF Begins Phase Three Physical Recruitment Exercise Across Lango
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has commenced Phase Three of its 2026 General Recruitment Exercise, with shortlisted candidates required to report for physical and medical recruitment activities at designated centres across the country.
The physical recruitment phase is running from August 10 to August 22, 2026, according to an official UPDF announcement issued ahead of the exercise. Only candidates whose names appear on the official shortlist are required to report to the recruitment centres indicated in the recruitment schedule.
For candidates from the Lango sub-region, the exercise is attracting attention among young people seeking opportunities to join the country's defence forces. Applicants from districts including Alebtong, Dokolo and Otuke, among others, are expected to follow the reporting arrangements contained in the official recruitment schedule.
Candidates Warned Over Required Documents
The UPDF has reminded shortlisted candidates to arrive with the necessary documentation for verification.
According to the Force, candidates must carry a handwritten application addressed to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management – UPDF, together with recommendations from LCI, LCIII and GISO/DISO authorities.
Applicants are also required to present their original National Identity Cards, original and photocopies of their academic documents, and three coloured passport-size photographs. Graduate documents are required to be certified.
The UPDF has emphasized that candidates should present genuine documentation during the recruitment process. The Force has previously warned that forged or falsified documents can result in arrest and prosecution.
Recruitment Is Free
Authorities have also issued a strong warning against individuals who may attempt to exploit applicants by promising them recruitment opportunities in exchange for money.
The UPDF says recruitment is completely free of charge and that there are no agents or intermediaries involved in the process. Members of the public who encounter suspected recruitment fraud are encouraged to report it to the nearest Police Station, DISO's office or UPDF unit.
The warning is particularly important during recruitment exercises, when applicants can become vulnerable to fraudsters claiming to have connections with recruitment officials.
Wide Range of Applicants Targeted
The 2026 General Recruitment Exercise covers both regular recruits and several professional categories.
The UPDF recruitment programme includes opportunities for general recruits as well as professionals in areas such as ICT, engineering and logistics, aviation, health services, law, teaching, sports, social sciences and music.
For general recruits, the official recruitment information indicates an age range of 18 to 22 years, with specific academic requirements depending on whether applicants are joining through UCE or UACE categories.
Candidates Urged to Follow Official Instructions
With the physical recruitment exercise already underway, shortlisted candidates from Lango are being encouraged to carefully check their names, reporting dates and designated recruitment centres before travelling.
The UPDF says successful candidates will subsequently receive individual dates for reporting to their respective training centres.
The Force has also encouraged qualified Ugandans to approach the recruitment exercise with discipline and patriotism while avoiding shortcuts or individuals claiming they can guarantee selection.
For the latest recruitment information, candidates should rely on the official UPDF recruitment announcements and their district authorities, rather than unverified information circulating on social media.
The Phase Three physical recruitment exercise will run until August 22, 2026.
