Otuke East MP Acon set for US fundraising marathon

The Member of Parliament for Otuke East, Hon. Julius Acon Bua, is set to travel to the United States to participate in a fundraising marathon aimed at mobilizing resources for development initiatives in his constituency.

Speaking to Radio Wa News on 27th September,2026 in an exclusive interview, Acon said he received a letter earlier this month through the Speaker of Parliament from the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund, notifying him of his invitation to participate in the fundraising event in the United States-US from 6th to 17th October 2026.

The Achon Uganda Children’s Fund, based in Portland was founded by Acon, a former Ugandan Olympian, after he encountered children affected by conflict and poverty. The organisation has since supported initiatives in health, education and livelihoods across the Lango sub-region.

Acon said he is currently preparing for the trip, adding that the fundraising run will involve participants in both the United States and Australia.

He explained that funds raised from the marathon will be directed towards drilling boreholes to improve access to clean and safe water, as well as supporting livelihood initiatives through the distribution of 1,000 goats to organised community groups.

According to Acon, the initiative is intended to complement government efforts to address water shortages while creating additional economic opportunities for households in Otuke East.

The marathon is expected to attract participants and well-wishers from different parts of the world, with contributions going towards the proposed community development projects.

Acon said one of his key priorities is to use the funds raised to procure and distribute 1,000 goats to beneficiaries organised in community groups.

He has therefore encouraged residents of Otuke District to embrace group-based initiatives, saying organised communities are better positioned to benefit from government programmes and support from development partners and well-wishers.

The fundraising initiative is expected to complement existing government programmes by mobilising additional resources for clean water access and household livelihoods, while encouraging communities in Otuke East to strengthen collective efforts in accessing development opportunities.
