Oyam Farmers Excited as Rainy Season Boosts Agricultural Activities
Farmers in Oyam District are expressing excitement following the arrival of the rainy season, which has brought renewed hope for a productive farming season. For many farming communities in the district, the rains have provided favourable conditions for preparing land and planting different crops. Farmers are now busy in their gardens planting and taking care of crops such as maize, soya beans, groundnuts, sweet potatoes and vegetables.
The farmers say the rainy season is important because agriculture remains one of the main sources of food and income for many households in Oyam District. “We are so happy because we have started planting our crops, such as maize, soya beans, groundnuts and sweet potatoes, among others. We are hopeful that the rainy season will help us achieve a good harvest,” said Ojok Samuel, one of the farmers in Oyam District who produces large quantities of maize, soya beans and groundnuts.
Another farmer, Olila Bob, said the rain received on Friday morning had made the land soft, making it easier for farmers to prepare their gardens and plant crops. He added that if the district continues receiving enough rainfall, it will support the healthy growth of crops that have already been planted and lead to faster production, especially for crops that mature quickly, such as groundnuts. “If we continue receiving enough rain, the crops we have planted will grow well and mature faster, especially crops like groundnuts and many others,” he added.
Farmers are now optimistic that continued and well-distributed rainfall will result in a successful harvest, improve food security and increase household incomes through the sale of agricultural produce. As gardens across Oyam District begin to turn green, the rainy season has brought fresh hope and excitement among farmers, who are looking forward to a productive season and better livelihoods for their families.
