Kinkiizi Diocese donates over 40,000 tree seedlings to Kanungu district.

The Diocess of Kinkiizi on Tuesday 18th, October 2022 launched the campaign dubbed “Making Kanungu Green” where 30,000 (thirty thousand) natural tree seedlings and 10,000 (Ten thousand) beautification/ornamental tree seedlings were distributed.

Mwesigye Ambrose, Resident District Commissioner Kanungu commended the good work done by the Church in the district. He pointed out that he was happy with the fact that it’s by the good leadership of Bishop Dan Zoreka that the Diocese of Kinkiizi has championed such global beneficial campaigns.

Mwesigye called upon people who encroach on the Swamps to stop immediately or face the consequences as stated in the law.

According to the legal framework, the public trust doctrine is echoed in the Land Act (Cap. 227) that mandates the government to hold in trust for the people and protect wetlands for the common good of the citizens of Uganda. The Land Act prohibits the government from leasing or alienating

Hon. Eng Sam Kajojo District Chairperson Kanungu promised full corporation in this “Make Kanungu Green Campaign” saying that this is the way to go if Kanungu needs to remain a prestigious tourism destination.

The chief guest, Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, Bishop of the Kinkiizi Diocese emphasized that God performed His duty of creating a beautiful world and assigned a man to take care of it. He said this Oxygen week was indeed worth celebrating because the rate at which this planet earth is being degraded is rather devastating.

Zoreka thanked the partners in this Campaign that included Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga who donated most of the Natural Tree Seedlings and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

He as well extended his gratitude to Dr. Holger Lithal, a German Serion and Chancellor of Great Lakes Regional University for supporting this Green Campaign by donating 2 million in cash.

Mutahakana Gatrude Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Kanungu applauded the Diocese for easing and giving a hand to the district in beautifying Kanungu.
