KITGUM: TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 2022

Kitgum district health department has received 51,602 vaccines for the third round of Covid-19 mass vaccination campaign which is to kick off on June 21, 2022.

But unlike the previous campaigns, the focus this time is on children age 12 to 17 years, health officials have said.

The consignment comprises the Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines.

Francis Oceng, the Kitgum district focal person for expanded program for Immunization urged the public to make good use of the available vaccines to halt the resurgence of Covid-19 pandemic.

He informed the people that some of the vaccines like Pfizer have limited duration to be in store due to the requirement for very low temperature.

He explained that this is because the mixing of Pfizer from its solid state to liquid reduces the durability and after one month the vaccine will expire if not utilized.

Anne Mary Acen, the Ministry of health’s supervisor for Kitgum district stressed that the Kitgum Covid-19 Task-force should fight to change the mindset of people from negative perceptions about vaccines to positive.

She cautioned the taskforce team to mobilize well and give people the right explanation about vaccination for children under the required age (12 to 17).

Meanwhile Christopher Obol Arwai, chairperson LC5 of Kitgum district, urged the office of chief Administrative Officer to respond quickly in case the central government sends any financial support for the people who would be carrying out the mass vaccination campaign.

He said this is the battle that calls for joined hands and urged the task-force to maintain the momentum they exhibited in the previous rounds of mass vaccination against Covid-19.

At least 88,421 people in Kitgum district have received single dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 33,309 received their full dose in the last two mass vaccination campaigns.

William Komakech, the Resident district commissioner counseled the task-force and the people not to be worried by the unavailability of other vaccines like Mordena and AstraZeneca.
