Over 5000 people from different parts of Uganda gathered in Kitgum municipality on the 11th September 2022 to watch FUFA Drum quarter final game between Acholi and Buganda provinces.

The excitement expressed by Acholi province supporters overwhelmed the security personnel deployed to maintain law and order especially when Acholi province scored their goals. The personnel were far less to control the over 5000 people with some posing security threat at the pitch.

According to Mr. Marijan walire the Deputy Resident district commissioner (DRDC) Kitgum district who headed the security team, the number of security personnel were less to control many people as only 60 officers were deployed due to an unanticipated turn over of larger crowds.

Walire blamed the under deployment to the organizing committee whom he met a day before the the game to discuss security measures and the possible number of personnel needed to man the venue. He said the committee settled for only 60 personnel instead of 80 that he had proposed, a number he said couldn’t control the crowed effectively.

However he reported that Kitgum didn’t registered any serious cases of theft and or loss of property but only a minor case of accident involving people who were reportedly under influence of alcohol travelling back to Pader district and one person died on the spot.
