Speaker Among donates pigs to women’s group, Bukedea

28 piglets have been donated to the women’s group of Akou-Etom parish in Kamutur sub county in Bukedea district to pilot the piggery project initiated by Anita Among the Speaker of Parliament who is also the Member of Parliament for Bukedea district.

This women group is one of the groups based in most remote, disaster prone and hard to reach places in Kamutur Sub County, Bukedea district.
Deliveries and the distribution of the 28 piglets to the group beneficiaries was officiated by the political assistant of Hon. Among, Siporah Akol on Friday (02/09/2022).

According to Akol, improved breed piglets was given to one group is a trial before the major distribution commences across the district in due course.

“We are first trying to check up with this group then later when we realize that the project is doing well, we shall roll out to other groups and our target is to cover the entire sub county and the district at large,” Akol said.

She explained that the delivered improved piglets are both male and female whereby when they produce, the community members would be in position to share to other members.

Yeku Bulubulu, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Bukedea who was the chief guest, challenged the group beneficiaries to ensure proper safety of the piglets. He said the NRM government is ready to work with people who are in groups, not as individuals.

“With the leadership of NRM, everyone must benefit and develop but should be in a group not as an individual, so my appeal is that youbcontinue to vote NRM, vote President Museveni and vote Speaker Anita Annet Among”, said Bulubulu.

Irene Malinga, one of the beneficiaries together with her colleagues upon receiving a piglet each, says it’s the first time of its kind for them to benefit from government programs and in particular support from Speaker Anita Annet Among.

Jackson Ojekede the LC3 chairperson said he was going to monitor the beneficiaries to ensure none sells the piglets.
