The community of Morulinga Sub County in Napak district are turning up in high numbers to take their COVID-19 jabs.
This was revealed to Karamojanews by the Health Assistant Morulinga Health Center 11 Simon Achia yesterday.
Achia said since the beginning of the second drive of the COVID vaccination exercise, the community has continued to willingly involve themselves in the process by rallying their peers to take up the vaccine.
He added that recently they underestimated the potential of the community turning up with their children and they ordered for only 150 dozes of Pfizer vaccines but to their surprise, the vaccines got exhausted before the targeted days.
The health Assistant now says the remaining population is eager to get vaccinated and as such they will lias with the district to source for more doses so that they can reach out to those who have missed.
According to the in charge Morulinga Health Center 11 Sr. Betty Agan, the community believe that the vaccines are free of charge and it’s the only opportunity they have it when the health workers reach out to them in the villages.
She said most parents have also willingly turned up with their children of age 12-18 to be vaccinated, something they least expected at the start of the campaign to vaccinate the population in that age bracket due to previous fears.
Sr. Agan said this is the fourth round of COVID vaccination targeting children from 12-18 years especially those who had not got in July and the ones who are to take their second jabs.
She however said they are faced with a challenge of children not carrying their previous vaccination cards which delays the exercise most often.
Molly Achia, a mother who was taking her three children to be vaccinated yesterday said it was difficult for her to take her children to the health center due to the distance but since the health workers are in her area, she can’t afford to make them miss the opportunity which may take long to return.
Sr. Agan has advised those who are still hesitant about the vaccines to go and get vaccinated so that Uganda can be a COVID free country.
Morulinga Health Center 11 covers an area with 13 villages, 3 primary schools and has up to 26 Village Health Teams who have been actively sensitizing and rallying the community to get vaccinated.
