Karamoja women welcome the cultural gala

After two years of absenteeism from the prestigious cultural gala of the karimojong due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the smiles are all back as women prepare to showcase the culture of the region in Abim come 30th August to 3rd September 2022.

Elders in karamoja has of recent believed that women have key roles to play in promoting culture and peace in their region.

Abim district being the host for 7 Edition karamoja cultural gala,women in the district have organized and are ready to welcome their fellows from across the region to present the hidden treasures about karamoja ladies to entire world.

Hon. Janet Akech okori-moe the Woman Member of Parliament Abim district confirmed her presence to attend cultural gala in her district where she will be among the women who will present the different dishes of cultural food, Dances, Dialogue among others.

 

As the theme of this year’s edition states ‘security in karamoja, the role of culture and Traditional mechanisms in steering a peaceful karamoja’, all hands are on deck with the female counterparts on the table as well.

Akech holds confidence that women can strongly promote cultures if natured well by Elders and she asserted the entire world to watch out for Karamoja cultural activities.

Peace Gloria Napeyok a woman from kotido district said she can now have time to expose her cultural treasures to the rest of world which she believes was not being shown out well.

Napeyok said she is very proud to be a karamoja lady with unique cultural norms and practices, Dressing, food and dances .

Meanwhile, Hon. Yuventine Adyeda Omara, the Abim Chairperson Local council 5 appealed to women to value and explore what they are going to present on cultural day to change the region of karamoja.

He added that women are in better position to promote peace in karamoja with the neighboring districts such as kitgum, Agago Pader, Kumi and others because they are sometime drivers of the men’s mind.

The mission of this year’s cultural festival is majorly to bring peace among karamoja people and neighboring districts.
