MSC awards best performing clients in Karamoja.

The Microfinance Support Center Moroto Zonal office has awarded a number of best performing clients across the nine (9) districts of it’s operation in Karamoja with certificates.

This was done on Friday 12th/August 2022 from Hotel Africana in Moroto where MSC marked 20 years of service by engaging it’s clients and stakeholders. The certificates were given to the different SACCOs, including those of Emyooga, mainstream businesses and service providers.

Emyooga SACCOS that were awarded certificates include; Nabatuwa cattle traders and slaughtering SACCO from Moroto, Jie local leaders SACCO from Kotido, Moroto Municipality fishermen SACCO, Pian County Veterans SACCO from Nakapiripirit, Bokora County Women Entrepreneurs SACCO from Napak, Moroto Municipality veterans SACCO, Labwor County restaurant owners SACCO, Matheniko County women entrepreneurs SACCO from Moroto and Chekwi County Veterans SACCO from Nakapiripirit.

Businesses and service providers such as Shalosha Hotel, Obara kapei group, Bilkop investments, Kitee Lore investments Limited were also awarded certificates for their contribution to the MSC in the region.

Two outstanding clients who were more active and consistent with savings, borrowing and repaying loans were awarded an extra accolades of excellence. They included Nabatuwa cattle traders and slaughtering SACCO, which brings together retired Karimojong raiders. The SACCO has received so far four loans of over 70m Uganda shillings from MSC and has very good truck record of repayment.

Dominic Lokwang, the Chairperson of the group says MSC has transformed them from the warrior lifestyle and now are able to take children to school, own property and fend for their families with ease.

He requested for more financial support so that they can invite their peers who are still in the bushes to join them in doing business. Lokwang says it’s difficult to convince the karachunas (armed Youth)out of the bushes to surrender guns without any other better alternative for them.

The other is Kitee Lore investments Limited which has over the years ventured into a number of investments in the region including conservation, hotels and mining among others with financial support from MSC.

Lokwang Peter, the managing director Kitee Lore investments Limited says been through hard work, endurance and financial discipline that he managed to grow his investments.

He called upon other medium investments to take advantage of the friendly interest rates at MSC, so that they can expand.

According to MSC head of business Mr. Gidson Ainamani, business in karamoja is promising although still low compared to other parts of the country.
He said those who took mainstream loans are performing very well and if other SACCOS can follow suit, MSC will be ready to support.

Ainamani emphasized that once the savings culture is adopted by everyone in the region the future will be great for the as Karamoja still has more investment opportunities to be explored.

Over the course of 20 years, MSC Moroto zone has supported a total number of 209 customers all over the region including SACCOS and cooperatives (55), MSMEs (52) and Groups (102).
