Save the Children Uganda under their Kanungu distrist branch has today donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), detergents and temperature guns to the Kanungu district local government COVID-19/Ebola taskforce in a bid to strenghthen the district’s capacity to fight the disease if it arises.
Among the things received at the district headquarters by the Resident District commissioner (RDC) Amanyire Ambrose on behalf of the district were 15 20litre jerrycans of liquid soap, 8 boxes of bar Soaps, 40 packets of face masks, 12 boxes of surgical gloves, 2 Alcohol-based hand rub, 7 boxes of Jik,30pairs of heavy duty gloves and 4 temperature guns with their batteries.
Amanyire appreciated save the children for always helping Kanungu district in terms of health adding that the items will be supplied to high volume health centres that is Kihiihi Health Centre IV, Katate Health Centre IV, Kambuga Hospital and Bwindi Community Hospital.
Save the children is currently implementing projects in 3 thematic areas in Kanungu district including Nutrition which mainly aims at providing infant and young child feeding support to children below 2 years, pregnant and lactating women. This also included training of health workers on implementation of nutrition services in health facilities.
Another is child protection which handles responding to the promotion of the rights of children both refugees and in the joy community and lastly health where they work closely with the district to scale up hygiene interventions for epidemic preparedness in Uganda.
This includes, support with PPEs, IPC materials, training of Village Health Teams on contact tracing and active case search, mentorship of school task forces on government Safe Operating Procedures for COVID19 and Ebola, supporting the district with fuel to help surveillance activities, support the district with airing radio spot messages and radio talk shows to sensitize the public, supporting the mentorships for health workers on key IPC for COVID-19 and Ebola Virus Disease.
