Stop misusing COVID19 surveillance vehicles, Min. Aceng warns district leaders.

Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has warned leaders across the country on the misuse of COVID-19 and GAVI vehicles provided at their disposal.

She sited the case of Kassanda district when she visited to follow up on the Ebola case that is the latest district to confirm the Ebola Virus following Mubende, Kyegegwa, and Kagadi.

Aceng said that the vehicles were provided for predominantly COVID-19 activities in the district and not for attending conferences by the district officials like the Chief Administrative Officer-CAO, District Health Officer-DHO among others.

The double-cabin pick ups were bought through the donations collected by the country from business communities and other development partners in abid to fast track COVID-19 response activities.

It is alleged that most of the district officers in the higher ranks have been using this vehicles for personal gains like attending meetings out of the districts and others.

Aceng warned that in her visits to different districts, incase a vehicle is missing or not performing its duties, the leaders will be held accountable.

This comes after the eruption of the Ebola disease in the country with most people now neglecting the existence of COVID-19, something the experts say can risk escalating the COVID-19 infections.

Currently, the Ministry of Health has enlarge the vaccination groups starting from 12 years and above that was earlier on neglected due to vaccine scarcity.
