The management and board of Wazalendo SACCO (WSACCO) have pledged total support to the various SACCOs under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga in Karamoja Sub Region.
This was during the launch of it’s sixth cash Branch in Moroto district on Saturday 15th/ October 2022.
According to the Chief Executive Officer Wazalendo Col. Freddie Joseph Enatu, the board sat and agreed to set up a cash Branch in the region due to the increased concentration of the forces (most of it’s members) in the region.
Col. Enatu said as a Force (UPDF) and Wazalendo SACCO, they are committed to developing the economy of Uganda and especially Karamoja that still has most of it’s economic potential not tapped into.
He added that with the various government programs like Emyooga and PDM which target SACCOs, they (Wazalendo) have more experience and are very ready to provide guide and training to SACCOs in the region so that they can survive to make a difference like Wazalendo has/is doing to it’s members (the forces).
“Emyooga and PDM SACCOs should be ready to visit our office in Moroto for benchmarking. WSACCO has had a very good track record for the past 17 years and with this experience, SACCOs in Karamoja have the right platform to learn from,” said Col. Enatu.
Hon. Cosmas Colibi Ayepa, the secretary social services Moroto district commended the government of Uganda for enabling UPDF to start Wazalendo SACCO which has over time improved the welfare of it’s members.
He said with the cash Branch now in Moroto, this will boost other government initiatives like PDM and Emyooga which aim to eliminate household poverty.
The mayor Moroto municipality, Hon. Ismael Muhammad says this will boost economic activities within the Municipality and in the whole region.
The mayor called upon the UPDF leadership in the 3rd Division to encourage Wazalendo members to tap into various business opportunities within Karamoja.
Brig. Joseph Balikudembe, the 3rd Division commander thanked the board of Wazalendo SACCO for bringing the cash Branch nearer to it’s members noting that most of them used to spend much on transport to access this service.
Balikudembe has encouraged and called upon Wazalendo SACCO and UPDF to invest in the vast and virgin opportunities in Karamoja so that it creates more opportunities for the locals (employment) which will greatly impact (improve) lives of the local population.
He said Karamoja needs to be invested in so that development is realized and as such reducing the incidents of insecurity because most youthful populations will be absorbed into active economic activities.
Moses Chemutai one of the Wazalendo SACCO beneficiary in Moroto said among other benefits, he will get instant access to cash at hand when he want it.
He also added that this will enhance his savings, investments culture and prosperity at personal level.
