The three schools that represented Karamoja at the national Music Dance and Drama (MDD) in Kyotera district put up a spirited performance to earn the region some promising positions.

The three schools, Kasimeri primary school, Lomukura primary school and Kangole Girls primary school were not a disappointment, at the regional level they emerged as the cream de la cream.

At the national level, Kasimeri primary school from Moroto managed to out compete other schools for position eight (8) out of the 58 quoirs that participated nationally. The other two schools, Lomukura and Kangole Girls both trailed each other at position 31 and 35 respectively.

According the head teacher Kasimeri Primary School Mr. Samuel Ewangu, this is more promising than the last time when they were at position twelve (12).

“We are very pleased with the performance as it shows some progress and we hope to improve better in the next festivals, he said.”

National MDD Results

He said if changes in the syllabus were not over made, his school could have performed better because it (changes) affected the quoir preparations.

“Changes especially in the western piece syllabus were made more than once (3 times) and you know we need to understand everything well before performing them, this affected our practice time so much, Mr. Ewangu decried.”

According to Mr. Ewangu, this shows much improvement in the MDD performance across the region and with more efforts put on preparations and facilitation, much will come out of the region.

Kasimeri Primary school has had a very good truck record when it comes to MDD, in the region it has been for close to ten (10) years in a row and nationally, it scooped the 4th position twelve (12) years ago, the best position ever attained by a school in Karamoja region.
