NAPAK: FRIDAY, AUGUST 05, 2022

Over 500 pupils from the nine districts of Karamoja have turned up for the regional Music, Dance and Drama Festival being hosted by Kangole Boys Primary school in Napak district.

Each district was expected to present the best choirs after the recently concluded inter school competitions with the defending champions, Moroto presenting three representative schools.

All the other districts have presented each 55 participants except Nakapiripirit, due to unconfirmed reasons.

The host, Napak district has presented only one school because it doesn’t have more constituencies like Moroto and Kotido which both have municipalities.

According to George Odongo, Chairperson MDD ARUPEPE Karamoja region, 11 schools are participating in the festival so far.

He however said other districts could not turn up (Amudat & Nakapiripirit) due to alleged financial constraints faced by most schools in the region.

He added that Amudat has never participated in a music, dance and drama event ever since the Karamoja region has been organizing them.

Alfred Olanya Otto, a choir trainer at Karenga boys primary scholl, said he is optimistic that his school will again represent the region at the national level.

He claimed that the school has been dominant in the Karamoja north for the past eight years in the MDD festival and is hoping to continue the tradition.

Sisto Amach Oyugi, the choir trainer for Abim boy’s primary, said this is the first time they are qualifying for the regional tournament because they had no good trainers before but now there are two trainers for the school.
